" Earlier this month, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that artists must now pay for any musical sample they use in their work, no matter how small. In the past, artists only had to pay for larger samples that incorporated an easily recognizable piece of the original work. It doesn't suprise me anymore it's just another stupid ruling some genre's rely alot on sampling it's just another way of milking money

That is what is so brilliant about trance, techno, progressive and even house - the fact you do not need to use samples, an original and new sound can be made everytime... Hip-hop, RnB and shit like that heavily relies on samples to make money easily and to make them sound better and bad ass than they really are!

Sampling was always illegal, if you did not have permission. That's why you rarely see many Coldcut albums because they can't get permission to all of the samples. The same goes for Stenski and Dee, they never got permission. Sampling in my mind is an art and only few can do it well but when they do it well, look out.

Well, Ive just started producing and to get a good sound at the moment I seem to be taking samples... Just seems (because of my experience so far) that samples is at the beginning of the learning circle? Ill find out Im sure!
