Post subject: Pentium Vs Athlon |

Always a debate when looking into getting a new PC is which CPU to slap in the old chap.
I'd always edge towards an Athlon system, its cheaper and the performance is always very good indeed.

I think these days that price is the only deciding factor as both have comperable performance numbers. Personally, I choose the pentium (Intel) chip over the Athlon chip just because of my previous experiences with it.

Personally comparing price and performance I would choose Athlon.

My past experiences with athlon is that it runs at too high of a temperature. After an anthlon PC if on for a few hours, the performance decreases considerably. Intel have not got this problem.
I like the Intel Xeon processers

Pentium chips are usually a better choice. Athlon 64 (64 bit processors) are in theory faster than the average Pentium ones that are only 32 bits, however a Pentium with Hyperthreading technology should be just as fast or faster than an Athlon 64 (which I believe doesn't implement hyperthreading)

People on Athlon should check there running speed, normally its lower than was it supposed to be... like a 3.4Ghz Athlon runs at a 2.2Ghz P4...

This is a complete lie. Athlon processors run at the same speed all the time unless you enable some powerdown-functions (only available on the latest Athlon 64 and Opteron processors).
They tend to become a little bit warmer than the Intel-cpu's but it's really not a problem. The first Athlons were a lot warmer than the ones in the XP-series introduced 2-3 years ago.

The fastest Athlon (not Athlon 64) got a PR rating of 3200 (to indicate it's equal to an 3,2GHz Intel when it comes to performance). However, it runs at 2,2GHz.
This is because the Athlon-processors performs a lot better than the number of GHz it runs at compared to an Intel processor.

Also, AMD prices their processors a lot lower than Intel, so I've chosen AMD for the past few years and never looked back.

It really depends what you're doing with your processor if iit'sd surfing the internet, writing letters ect there is no difference. If you're using it to reencode video files and things llike that the Pentium wins hands down whilst the Athlon is better at gaming
