Very interesting points in that article there.

I dont think Trance is dead by any means its just not as big as it has been. EuroCHeese bollocks has become a bit popular with 'Clubland' shit and that.

these points are quite good and they have a point, but the person there speaks in general though. however, i dont agree with the first point made, in my opinion production is not that easy.. anyway, i think these points made there are one of all the reasons why we dont easily find people who listen to trance.would like to hear some more opinions though, and some more reasons for that

"Trance is elusively the easiest to make. So everyone is making it."

Easier and simpler to understand than some genres. But to make good trance music like Ferry and Armin takes a lot of knowledge both technically and musically. People who don't like electronica often make the assumption that it's simple to make, just because they have seen programs like Ejay and Music Maker advertised.

"You have people who make EuroCheese but call it Trance. They give bad names to Trance when they are not Trance."

"People who weren't into Trance in the first place grew angry as they get annoyed by EuroCheese. They do not and cannot distinguish between Cheese and Trance. So they swear to hate Trance due to their confusion. "

Ideally the euro commercial cheese wouldn't share the same name as the good quality melodic and euphoric material the dedicated fans love. Then there would be no confusion and no assumptions that all trance is crap. Unfortunately that isn't the case but I'm more than happy to correct anyone who makes those assumptions.

"EuroCheese is bubblegum so they enter music charts very easily. They become annoying because they aren't good music and they get too much airplayed."

Much the same as a lot of chart music. Fans of euro-trance and pop aren't bothered about how well the music is made as long as it has a good hook and a catchy vocal line.

"Trance requires people to take time and let go to build the "trancy" feeling. Nowadays, who has time anymore? Trance and Eurocheese tend to sound alike in the intros. People who do not know Trance never get to learn to distinguish between the two. "

Not sure what is meant by building the "trancey" feeling. Not many people have enough time on their hands to really sit down and pay attention to lengthy sessions of music. But I think this is applicable to any style, not exclusively trance. Basically if you heard a part of a song you can usually tell fairly quickly if you like it or not.

Well, that was shorter than I thought it'd be.

I look at it this way. Something struck me in the news lately: it's like bicycling. How so? For starters, lots of people cycle (I don't think "bicycle" is quite a verb) for fun. Emphasis on *lots*. Obviously there are many types of bicycles too, ranging from the proverbial garden variety to the really expensive, esoteric types of mountain bikes with fancy gears and all that shiznit. You've got a completely class of rider paying for those. Said rider may in fact be professional, and may have a top-notch bike for the purpose of competing for $$$ and other prizes. So even among bikers biking, there is such a yuge variety. Some people do it just for fun. Others are more fevered enthusiasts and have a real fit, active lifestyle centered around their bicycles. And taken to the extreme, for someone like Lance Armstrong, it's his life!

"Trance" may have all manners of names, but really, when you think about, it's going to be individual tracks, albums and artists that stand out over time -- NOT a whole genre. That's just lazy generalization, and quite frankly, cookie-cutter ain't the same as roll your own ain't the same as having a go making fun of the cliches Wink

As for what unanimously constitutes "good music", I dunno, but I listen to what I like what I listen to. Cool

Some interesting points there, but not neccessarily true. Euro dance has been out since the year dot, remember Clock, Cappella, Alice Deejay, Motiv 8 these guys produced some classics but still it can only be classed as euro dance.

Personally i believe the fact that this music is now deemed tacky/tedious/cheesey is because there is no longer a demand for it in the nightclubs although it remains popular with the younger public.

Trance on the other hand is different, a name that encompasses a wide range of dance music, Prog trance, psy trance, Euphoric trance (the list goes on). When Trance became very popular 98'99 alot of mainstream dj's (ie the fúck twát himself Judge Jules, Pete Tong) , Dj's who were not associated with trance, were very quick to jump on the bandwaggon and very quick to jump off and start slagging off the music as cheesey.

Trance has been around now for about 14 years, the scene is still strong and just because it is not the flavour of the month at the moment (coz all the kids like R'n'B ie rubbish n' bollocks) doesnt mean to say the genre is dying.

Ps, I tell you something now!! a good euphoric trance record is not easy to make, alot of hard work has to go into it, its not like some house records that are stuck on loop, hence Stardust 'Music sounds......' great record that it is though.

ALL music is easy to make when you become familiar with it. Its simple as that. If you are a good musician in whatever genre of music then you can make songs very easy!

yes ill be like the 5th or 6th person to say this but yea trance is really basic. But what i find more interesting is that i didnt really see anything on house in that link. House is somewhat connected itself to trance in some ways as in its dance music too but i think it is extremely more difficult to make house music then trance music. i see no reason as to why they should be regarding to trance in that manner and thinking that its just simple to make. In some situations yes but in others no.but oh well. Let them talk all the bs they want. we'll all just stay in our little world with our headphones on and not listen to a damn thing they say Cool

Why no one mentioned markus and armin as one of the reasons. They are both nice people and I've never had a problem with them on a personal level but it seems that they rather make the same mold stuff and artists don't innovate, they just make tired crap to sell more records. Trance has lost the innovation, MIKE and L-Vee rather make the same weak mold stuff without their usual heart and soul stuff that got them popular. It seems that trance is selling out, more coin for less innovation, that's a trade off, so the talented producers are going elsewhere to make other genres. Markus has a number of producers making stuff for him but in his mold, same with Armin and these producers are just making the same crap, why to sell more records. I have a tremendous problem with this, heck Nu-Nrg send every song to PvD for his approval, I mean that's not innovation, that's controlled disinnovation. I'm sick of the trance world for the most part, I listen to the 1998-2001 stuff for the most part, I rather listen to artists that innovate, they may not be as popular as the rest of the people but I rather have people making unique stuff, rather the same mold. THe scene will change, you can only milk so much money for so long.

hell i agree with you andy.trance has changed, but not in the good way, and its not made for the right puprose. it has faded away. trance comes out in a way that it can come out/sell in the world easily. the reason is that the most popular artists (armin, markus, mike, pvd etc..)make the same trance, full of bliss and stuff(u got my point) and so music comes out in the world more easily.so money come in the way, and make it even more easy..only some artists make their own different music, but they are very few these days.so some people that are into trance, go back in the 98 trance until maybe 2002.. i turned to that year too, for a while i turned to progressive because i was also sick of the trance scene.. but now i just listen to old trance tracks that are still great, different, pure and much more..

TRANCE WON'T DIE AS LONG AS I LIVE!!!

I'm DJ, Producer, Agent and I'm starting a label with some other!

And if I could do more I would do that aswell, TRANCE WILL NEVER DIE!!!

BTW, just take a look at the major trance-forums you all might now, lots of people think trance is cool, cuz if you hated it, why would you go to a forum about it???

And remember, ALWAYS BE SUPPORTIVE!
