What are your favourite trance tracks that use distinctive piano riffs?

Here are the ones off the top of my head:

- Armin van Buuren / Communication
- Veracocha / Carte Blanche
- Paul van Dyk / For an Angel
- Aurora / Hear You Calling (Dark Moon Remix)
- Alice Deejay / Everything Begins with an E
- Human Evolution / Human Evolution

Robert Miles' "Children" while not trance can't be ignored either as it was one of the classic tracks that inspired trance.

Two of my favourite tracks of all time there:

Veracocha / Carte Blanche
Paul van Dyk / For an Angel

Piono riffs in Trance music do work pretty well. Im more a fan of old skool piano house riffs. Such stuff as Congress - 40 Miles and the like.

Well, I haven't heard his new stuff but from what I've read he's producing some fairly experimental material these days. As far as 'Children' goes, I think it is described as dream house. I'd say that it inspired trance, but came out before trance had been properly established as a genre.

Yes, it was dream house at that time but genres have changed over the years for a few times and now i think it's closer to trance. And for the establishment of trance.. trance as we know it, came out in early 90s ('91-'92 or so), some years before Children was released ('95). There were some early experiences into trance from the KLF and likes in the late '80s but it really was pushed forward for example by Sven Väth's Eye-Q label with all its classic releases in the early '90s.

Armin Van Buuren's remix of Jahel-Devotion had really nice subtle use of piano. It was the first track to pop in my head when I looked at the subject line. Rolling Eyes

Really love what he did to that track.

But other than that, I think the most beautiful Piano Trance track has to be Taucher's Winter Love. (That was soooooo nice!)

A guitar riff came into my head when I saw this tune in the list, so I had a listen to all the mixes on my CD single. The only bit of piano I found was on the Dark Moon remix. Is that what you meant or were you thinking of 'I need your loving' (where the piano is more evident) instead?

Just thought of:
- System F / Cry
- Darude / Burning
...and that remix of 'Clocks' by Coldplay. Who was that by and was it called 'Clocks' or 'Time'?

Okay, I wasn't sure since you didn't put that. I thought you may have confused 'Loving You' with 'I need your loving' because the piano breakdown is quite well known in 'I need your loving'.

Dunno about Jean michel, but I wouldn't class Capella as trance, no. I still maintain the view that although that kind of music lead to trance, and possessed elements that trance obviously also has it still isn't trance because at the time it was released trance was not an established genre.
