Anyone else paying attention to them?
Canada's doing all right, had a really slow start, tying AUSTRIA... Rolling Eyes then seemed to smarten up after a couple games. They were down two goals vs. Finland when I left the house this morning - but then Heatley scored in OT, so it's all good. Very Happy

We worry?

As I stated before and have many times, the reason that Canada is not as great is due to injuries and the best players for Canada are either recovering from surgery or still playing in the NHL playoffs. Notice most of the Swedish players are there for their country, same with the czech rep. We ain't that good, probably us vs. Sweden in the final and us fluking it out again. See the real show of the world powers comes in September in Toronto when Team Canada wins the World Cup again, for the 6th time in 8 cups. Where we field an insane lineup like Brodeur, Iginla, Nash, Heatley, Primeau, St.Louis, Lecalvier, Richards, Pronger, Stevens (if he does not retire), Blake, Shannahan, McCabe and I could go on and on and on but really we are unstoppable. I doubt there will be an argument because we are world champs in both men's and women's hockey and hold double gold from the olympics. We do tend to field very powerful teams....hehehe...

I'm not too sure about Shanahan after his poor showing in the playoffs though. Plus hes pushing 35.
I can't wait for the world cup though, that'll be great. Especially if there's a NHL lockout next year, that'll be the last pro hockey I'll see in a while.

What's your pick for the Stanley Cup winners?
I think Tampa, awesome goaltending, plus probably the most reliable and best top line left in the playoffs, Richards, Lecavalier, St. Louis (not to mention Modin and others for addition scoring). At first I thought they would end up like Ottawa last year, awesome season but would not make it the final, but I really think they have a good chance.
It would be nice if Calgary won it (get the Cup back in Canada), but how far can you go with limited talent? Gelinas has been a real clutch guy, but really all they have for offensive talent is Iginla and Conroy, although others like Lombardi have been good. Plus they have a depleted blueline with Gauthier out. Montador and Commodore have done good in their absence, mind.

The winner will be led as usual by a Canadian, seems we are the only country that tends to show up come crunch time.

Canada won 5 - 4 after extra time! I guess Sweden will win the whole championship, though I'm not a big fan of ice-hockey Wink

As long as Sweden don't win the finals I don't really care.

A few years ago I watched NHL-matches every week, but I've somehow lost the interest for hockey the last years.

Anyway, my fav-teams are Detroid Red Wings, and the Canadian national team. Smile

Norway got such an awful team it's not fun watching them at all...

Do they show a lot of NHL games in Scandinavia?
Detroit got booted in Round Two of the playoffs by the Calgary Flames, btw. I think they have too many old players.

They show at least 2-3 matches per week on pay-tv.

A rematch from last year, Canada vs. Sweden.
We may not have a team full of superstars, but I think we sent a very good team this, with or without the Grind Line.
Shawn Horcoff, one of my favourite players, is doing his bit tho, like he did last year. Very Happy

We Won Again!!!!!!

Does this prove to the *beep* world that CANADA is the only WORLD DOMINATE HOCKEY POWER!!!!!!!!!

silver at junior worlds
spangler cup
Women's Championships
Holder of BOTH gold medals from last winter olympics
Repeat holders of Men's Championship

and soon to be title holders of the world cup again (5 out of 7 have been won by us). It shows that Canadian grit overcomes talent.

Laughing
Well I know that if Canada didn't make it in something, I would not be cheering for the US even though we are neighbours. Frankly I love to see them lose. Laughing
