Post Post subject: Most Overrated Songs/Artists (IMO) Reply with quote

This is just IMO,

But;

Motorcycle - As the rush comes
Very boring track, nothing uplifting about it, slow and easy melodys, put together in a few hrs no doubt...

Ferry Corsten - Rock your body rock
This is awful, coming again from one of the most overrated DJ's/Producers around, the only decent tracks from him were
System F - Out of the blue & Gouryella (sp?).

AVB - Just generally overrated.

Paul Van Dyk -
Im usually a fan of his, but Time of our lives, what on earth is that all about? Dire IMO.
And his latest track, Crush, is awful.

He needs to release more tracks like "Nothing but you", "Tell me why (The Riddle)" & "Angel".

This is not a flaming post, its just my opinions.

Feel free to add your personal opinions about the above/other artists... Very Happy

I agreed with you almost 100% on everything you said here, especially AvB. The only thing i dont agree with is As The Rush Comes. I would say it was more than overplayed and that kinda ruined its greatness. But its not overrated. (IMO)

I like 'As The Rush Comes', think its simple but so clever n intelligent, makes me feel good and certainly has a powerful atmosphere.

Totally agree with Ferry Corsten tho, 'Rock Your Body Rock' is awful but check out 'Ferry Corsten feat. The Thrillseekers - Sublime' and 'Kyoto' for recent productions, these are spot on!

Armin Van Buuren is my Number2 DJ atm, great sets, cleverly mixed and worked into a perfect journey ... Smile

Paul Van Dyk hasnt been very good imo for years, not a fan of his at all any more. 'Love Stimulation' was the last good thing he produced, but I do like some remixes of his tracks - 'Connected (Markus Schulz Reconstruction)'

Again, just my opinion like DETECT2! Smile

I though PvD's 'Time Of Our Lives' was a pretty good studio track from him. His livesets are still very good though.

Fat Boy's not all that overated, you dont hear much about him really.

I'd say Goldenscan and Gabriel & Dresden are far too overated.

How about Tiesto? Good yes, nice productions, but number 1 DJ? I think not.

Here we go

The Official Andy P aka TTA OVERATED LIST (DON'T LIKE IT....FUCK OFF!)

here we go and why

Tiesto - Overated DJ and Overated Producer

Tijs used to pick better tracks, play better vocal tracks, mix better, pick his track selection better (that was 2001...glorious year that was....saw him in 2001....oh my....heaven on earth). After mid 2002, he hit the shitter and has sucked ever since. Since crap remixes like tears from the moon (did nothing to the vocal), made venus (utter filth) and he mixed poorly and then worked with BT, utter shit again. The man knows better and can do better, he is too addicted with being a popstar these days, sad really

PvD

The great one has become utter shit and is producing utter garbage. Gone are the days of PvD playing whites you never heard of, it's the same repetitive crap now. His attitude went *beep* (he was always arrogant but not this bad). Gone are the days of emotional vocal less trance and epic journeys replaced by WEAK WEAK WEAK vocals, jan johnston ring a bell, second sun's crush ring a bell. The single greatest producer of trance has hit the shitter hence overated

Paul Oakenfold

God from 1998-2000 (now utter crap....still always be my fave dj in history because of those 3 yrs, extremely overated)

AvB

What the hell are happened to the great AvB, now content with playing overated overplayed tunes. The man used to be the king (2001....great dj) but now has fallen into bigheadistis as the same as tiesto and pvd. All 3 were great dj's but now fallen into hard times

Ferry Corsten

Hate his new electro slant but I hated his weeping epic style of yrs past

Markus Schulz

Below Par prog dj, subpar remixes and re-edits, viewed as God by many, extremely nice guy as well as his wife but sorry does not do shit

Matt Darey
One of the greatest producers on the planet, now content to put out cheesy shit and dj cd-r garbage

ATB
Always hated him, steven can bite me for this one. SHIT DJ, SHIT PRODUCER....completely overated to fuck....sellout as well

who else?
DJ ICEY

the most overated dj of them all...garbage in every sense of the word and not breaks.

and you wonder what is he thinking
well let's see here

I own every PvD Album cept reflections
I own almost all the classic oakenfold cd's (I have 97% of all of his EM's)
I own some tiesto cd's (still classic dj)
Just the great deejays have hit hard times and I think avb, tiesto and pvd are capable of returning to their past form (scary if they all did at the same time like 2001...oh my that was a year)

Who is not overated
JOOF
Christopher Lawrence
Misja Helsloot
Michael Splint
John Askew

Think this post is a good learning circle for us all, learning how to appreciate eachothers opinions but also to realise our own and to know that it doesnt matter what other people think in the sense that you like what you want to damn it! Very Happy

Recently bought 'Tiesto In Concert' DVD, not a fan really of Tiesto anymore, but I love the DVD. Fair enough, some of the mixing isnt even emotional or smooth and taking you on a journey into the next track - and I dont even like all the tracks!! - but its a great DVD, full of energy and is a happy set, people there are really into it and hes really into them, so fuck it!? Thats what people like ...

Long live dance and electronica!

I've only heard one track, October's Child, from Christopher Lawrence and frankly didn't like it enough to look for more stuff from him.
Michael Splint's one track that I have heard is quite nice - I feel free (Dub Mix) I think it is. His charts always look good too.
John '00' Fleming is really a great DJ, not just mired in one style. He plays prog, he plays uplifting, psy, even hard.
Of course Misja Helsloot has been around for a while - and First Second was a very good track!
So I agree with you on the "not overrated list" at least.

I backed my opinions with the evidence that I felt was necessary. I pointed out what CDs I owned anyway.

I should have added Hyper to the mix (but that is breaks and a totally different story)

PvD is a mint DJ but his productions arent that good.

AvB bores me a bit nowadays but his mixing is pretty good

Ferry Corsten is my fave atm, I quite like his new electro thing and some of his sets recently have been mint!

And finally Motorcycle: I used to love the tune, then I hated it, then i bought it when it finally came out over in the UK. I think its the bassline that does it for me... its nice.

The most overrated tracks/artists IMO:

Artists:

Paul van Dyk- his style was good before, but I don't really like his tracks anymore, because they sound a bit too odd.

Marco V. - I'm not a big fan of tech-trance, and his own tracks/remixes sound rather boring for me, but I do like his older clu-trance inspired tracks.

Tracks:

DJ Tiësto - Traffic- eeeeeeh, simply because it doesn't offer anything original and it just banging tech-trance. This track would never have got that big if it wasn't for the name T-I-Ë-S-T-O.

Tiësto feat. BT - Love Comes Again- more or less a completely rip-off of "Traffic", with a bassline so boring that I would rather listen to techno. The only thing that makes this track worth a listening is the nice vocals by Brian Transeau.

Top 3 ATM:
#1 Jonas Steur - Silent Waves
#2 Niklas Harding pres. Arcane - Blue Circles
#3 Jonas Steur - Castamara

Track to watch out for:
Arizona vs. Passiva - Halo

sorry but im gonna have to partly disagree with whoever said fat boy slim was overated.....production wise yes...most of his tunes are shit...but dj wise hes fuckin class...the way he cuts, mixes and layers various tracks in his sets is quality...i find personally it adds a lot more energy and creativity to his sets...and is not just the bog standard boring 'in and out' mixing u find with most dj's...

although not my prefered dj to listen to...i still rate him as one of the best

Yeah, it's important to remember that DJing can be more than simple mixing and track selection. Like Eddie Halliwell. Smile

Just to go from Fatboy Slim for a second, I remembered an artist / dj who (in my opinion) is very overrated ... *drum role* LANGE! The only production I have enjoyed of his really is: Lost Witness - Happiness Happening (Lange Remix) and OMG! That is a brilliant, brilliant track but I cant say I like much else of his ...

I have to disagree, I've liked everything production-wise I've heard from Lange, though I've not heard any sets. Really smooth, soft, nice sound.
