gouryella - gouryella got me into trance, was soooo powerful when i first heard it, but it was a sad feeling because its a really sad track, makes me think of a woman walking through a park alone ... then you hear tacks like nu nrg - dreamland and OMG! Cool happy, uplifting, euphoric, end of a set type trance ... different emotion all together but both beautiful! long live trance. Smile

totally disagree! more commercial stuff is being released and shitty djs like cosmic gate and dj jean are playing them, but if you keep "underground" with people like perry o'neil, likwit, armin van buuren and markus schulz then you find the deep, dark, happy, sad, emotional content you're lookin for! Very Happy

ive started noticing that the better tracks r getting airpaly now tho, take for example motorcycle - 'as the rush comes' or oceanlab - 'satellite' quality tunes being exposed for once. commerical tracks give the wrong impression of trance to the unfortunately miseducated public. a travesty of justice.

roll on ferry corsten & armin van buuren Cool

My god, I completely disagree with you. Listen to trance from '96 or so. Then listen to it now. Then listen to Progressive. Which two have the most in common?

And how is someone that is on a top-40 list, or someone that has a weekly radio show not commercial?

Rolling Eyes i was referring to the acts that just make generic trance based on simply wot does well in the charts, acts that make songs that i feel like ive heard a million times before due to its ridiculous similarity to so many other unoriginal trance tracks in the charts. acts such as flip n fill, barthezz and the aforementioned groove coverage and scooter.

and those that don't copy the 'template' thats evolved as a successful trance song it seems to me that after their 1st production they lose interest and make a practically identical track with a few different notes and key changes. poor show old bean.

Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes is one of the most generic "trance" songs I have ever come across. A mediocre, meaningless female vocal coupled with a 4/4, a rather generic bassline, and an uninspired melody. If that song represents the trance scene today, I guess I'm not into trance. Just because a song doesn't feature a "cheesy" melody doesn't make it underground, or soulful.

Do you remember a song called Sunrise, by Ratty? Did you enjoy it?

Motorcycle lyrics are not meaningless. If you understand them then you will see how well written they are!

Embrace Me
Surround Me
As The Rush Comes

Hmm... it could mean a few things, but obviously it means something different to everybody

Its a real dreamy track and the only mix I enjoy is the sweeping strings mix... and ill always stand up for that track because of its cool chilled back moods with really nice sounding vocals... fair play for them making something like this Smile

all a matter or opinion! i like motorcycle, it was great when it first came to djs playing it but i suppose it dramatically loses its appeal after its been on the radio a few times ... i agree with RayvinAzn, it is a very simple track but Steve was spot on about it not being meaningless - its a very clever and well pruduced track ... Smile

Who cares if a track or artist or radio show is commercial or not? It could be number 1 for six weeks on the Top 40 and I wouldn't care, as long as it is a track that I liked.
Trancers are far too hung up on what's commerical or not for my liking. And at what point does a track become commercial?

Comes back to that common confusion that people have who assume anything in the charts Trance wise is classed as a commercial track.

ATRC is not a commercial track, I hate it, not because its overplayed, in the charts or any of that. Simply becuase I dont like the track, its very boring with dull lyrics, my opinion that.

Thanks! It just really gets under my skin, people saying "You liked THAT track? It was cheesy!" or "This artist is so commerical".
I understand when people say that cheesy artists claim to be trance and give electronic music and trance a bad name. But really, who cares? I put up with quite a lot, I get ribbed because I like trance. But I don't care, just listen to what I like. Smile
