Why do people always struggle to fit a genre? When I write music it just flows from my brain to the finished product. Maybe other people don't like some of it, but I don't care.....at least it's MINE! I think music dies when people start sticking it into a fucking calculator and typing in the formula (kick on 1 and 3, hihat on 2, clap on 3).....like people telling other people how to write Jungle, or DnB, or Trance (thAAT's a tough one)! Just do it yourself!!! If you're meant to write music, the music will be written, so just flow with it brothas!

This is a good point! Definitly worth thinking about if everytime you go to create a new track and you come up empty. Some of the main reasons for this "mind Blank" is because you try to stick to certain rules and you try to keep the music you make "the same" as the popular stuff out there right now. This also makes you ignore some of the great original ideas you might have lurking in the back of your mind!
Good point StrayDog and I agree with you!
If it sounds good, then its even better!

straydog - you said 'like telling people how to write jungle, dnb' etc. Well, ive told people how to do the breakbeats - but only cause they asked me. Noone told me how to make d&b, i learnt myself.
Anyway, about making your own style - yeah, fair enough, take whats in your brain at that time. Ive only heard one of your tracks and its fucking original - ill give you that. But it depends how you think i suppose - id never be able to make something like your track ('The futures bright' i think it was). But then again, you said in a review for one of my tracks how you cant get your head round d&b... I suppose its just how you think.

polygon, I like every one of your tracks I have heard!!
I'm just talking about people who think they are creating "music" by following a formula! They may be creating noise, and it may even be noise that other people would enjoy listening to, but if it doesn't have the soul of the creator (that originality) instilled in it.....then it's not ART! Music is ART, so music without this originality, in essence, destroys the whole point of creating music in the first place!
But you're right mccrindle......
to each his own!
