I dunno about you guys, but in the late and mid nineties there was some really good stuff coming out. it seems like nowadays there are a lot of tunes that sound way too simmilar to stuff that already came out.. do you guys agree with me there???

It comes to a point when there not much more that can be done with a genre of music... thats the way it is with trance now... Trance will probably die out soon and might make a comeback in a few years...
Look happyhardcore is on its way back in!!
I dont like this idea more than anybody else, but its a fate to all music! Im just merly accepting it... unfortunatly

'98 to 2000, maybe 2001 as well, were the 'Golden Years' of Trance. I don't listen to a great deal of newer stuff as it doesn't seem to have that same 'feel' as the older stuff. Listening to sets like Gielen at Trance Energy 2003 gives me some hope mind you, but it still doesn't live up to some of the live events of a few years ago.

Maybe a bit. There hasn't been a whole lot of sure-fire anthems released recently, except for maybe As the Rush Comes. In the Late 90s' you had Veracocha, the first Gouryella tunes, Marco V - Simulated, ect.

Dont know about dying out but as vice said there are not as many productions coming through that really blow the roof off, especially this year.
I'm sure it will pick up again. There are still some proper belters coming through tho, just not as many as a few years ago.

Maybe every genre gets sudden surges that last for a few months... Hopefully trance will as well...
Im getting more into progressive stuff, I find that there are more new ideas and stuff to be explored there and thats why its a little more interesting for me to listen to. When I hear progressive in a club its able to make me go whoaa and dance like crazy [I could almost thank trigax and the guys here at ivibes for getting me into it], while trance does it but not as much...

The quality has perhaps not been as good the last years as it once was; but as with all electronic music, trance has developped into new directions.....from the worse to the better in my opinion. But I still think that nothing can beat classics like "Greece 2000", "Flaming June", "7 Cities", "Walhalla", "Theme From Norefjell", "Madagascar", "Superstring"....and all those amazing tracks!
And according to what different tranceproducers say, the popularity of trance has grown this year. It has had a "down-period" now for a couple of years, and nothing can match the top-year 99' when trancemusic was the most popular clubmusic in almost every European country.

I think that when someone makes a innovative sound, a lot of other produers copies it and makes a lot of crappy tunes just because they it is in. Also I think that because a top dj plays a tune other djs will start pl;aying that tune even though it may be crap. By doing this a lot of the good trance that doesn't get much airplay gets over looked.

I don't agree with that. Most top DJs get to be where they are in large part because of their trackselection skills. Also, lots of DJs pay attention to lesser known tracks (Johan Gielen for one). And play them in sets to have new songs playing and not "As the Rush Comes" every set.

Spot on, with so many up coming DJ's they can be the greatest mixer there is but if they just spin the same tracks that all the other DJ's do then folk will look to the ones that dare to be different and give the fresh unknown stuff a spin.

Trance has been going a bit downhill of late but then you always have a few good tunes during the year that makes me think otherwise but hwo knows what next year holds.

Personally I think 2003 has been a much better year than 2002 when it comes to new productions. Also many dj's are spinning other stuff than the most popular tracks. Just look at the sets from the Transcend festival at tranceairwaves.com, I think the lesser known dj's there did the best sets....like Luke Terry, Jon O'Bir, Goldenscan and Gareth Emery (ok, they are not unknown dj's but they're not as popular as AvB or Tiesto).

Perhaps it's not trance that is going downhill, maybe you are getting tired of the genre.
