Post Post subject: Composing, recording, mixing tracks etc. Reply with quote

Hi, I'm very n00b and hope somebody can help me here or give me a helpful link.
I'm interested in making trance/techno music. I mean creating a drum pattern, some vocs, keyboard, synth etc. from scratch.
I'd like to know if there is any (free) software out there which allows me to do this without investing in extra hardware (except for a mic for vocs... Wink)

Thx

hmm, i think there isnt a definative answer for your question, what your asking for sounds like reason maybe up your alley, all done on your pc, with maybe a half decent soundcard, but its not free!

http://www.reasonstation.net/tutorials/beginreason1.phtml

an example tutorial, dunno where the other parts are!

oh, probably everystep/direction you take, initially it will be really difficult to get going! at least you might need a midi keyboard, cant really see someone using the mouse/pc keyboard.

try finding some few freinds or people in your area that are intrested and doing the same thing, maybe at uni or school, its probably easier that way, than you just sat infront of a pc alone, no fun really, if you do find someone patient enough/nice enough to seeya all the way through, this probably would be the biggest help

maybe there are some music production magazines in your area, like
futuremusic
http://www.futuremusic.co.uk here in uk.

anyways this is all that ive pretty much picked up, browsing various forums, i havent even tried or want to try to produce music, so i maybe way off.

dunno if anyone else more experince here, can shed some further light on this, its one of those questions that pops up frequently, that really doesnt have a universal fits all answer!

A better quality alternative to buzz is psycle. It's more free than buzz... how is that possible? It's open-source (buzz isn't).

I must say that my first impression is that Buzz is the program that is best for a beginner, or there where atleast some demo songs included Wink

The softwares looks more like fasttracker, while software like reason, fruityloops have a more modern look, dunno which look you all like best.

Psycle is similar in nature, easier to use, and it sounds better, and it has much better standard plugin support. Buzz has a lot more native machines, but psycle has better support for vst synths and effects.
