I have reason to believe that trance and progressive music evolved from new wave music that is why I have a great deal of respect to artists like New order, U2, Tears for fears, Orchestral manouevres in the dark, Depeche Mode, The cure and other 80's artist.

I'd disagree on that and give a partial credit to the old nob turning chicago house spinners.

I think they affected the evolution in a other way, they are longer back in the history, I still think thoose other artists affected the music much so it become what it is today!

Thats a good point.

Allthough everything has its limits and with so many different styles now kicking around its hard to see how anything with a completey new sound can come about. Mainly just variations on the different sounds around today or one which has not been available to the massess, pop up and gather some interest.

But still you can see bigger changes, the smaller is harder to give a diagnos, but the bigger! But you can analys the bigger changes and see what draws it has from other music. It is just like the latest Driftwood son, you can hear it has influences from Freeloader.
And these are used because so many liked the sound of freeloader.

Thats one way you can analys "bigger" changes in the "trance history"

oh yeah, take one sound from a tune and create a new sound from that is pretty apparent with a lot of trance music.

Sometimes that dip from other music can be taken to extreme, especially with 80's pop covers Smile

indeed, Pet shop boys are one of the pioneers in dance scene as well as Annie Lennox, Boy George, George Michael. these are the artists that every producers and DJ's must give credit to their success.
