i dont see point in it personally...
all you have to do is connect your Hi-Fi to you pc and record it that way via the line in.. quality may not be CD quality (320kbps) but its definatly mp3 quality (160/192 birate)
and then if you got an optical connection.. which in a couple of years everyone will have then you'll be able to keep the quality.. !!!
..lets face it, mp3s will never die.. no matter what they do...

You know what I think? I think that the record companies are money horny shitheads who not care about quality music.. they just want more and more money.. I read some minutes ago about a 12 year old little girl that got suid by a record company and that's just f**king unbelivable
It's like this.. years ago were the record companies complaining about the casettes.. that the ppl recorded the songs from the radio etc.. and now it's mp3.. Yeah I buy cd's and vinyls but I still think that MOST of the record companies just cares about money and not the music..

i agree with Spherix....read about that little girl too...and a 71 year old man was also accused of spreading mp3s....seems the RIAA have caught the big dogs now....bah
anyway....in the usa they have measured that fewer people download mp3's now than a few months a go....at the same time the record sales have dropped even further...
it's about time the money-thinking music-industry realize they have to do something constructive to sell more records again...like selling GOOD music at a LOWER price...instead of all shit-music that you find in the stores now...

I sometimes like to take a cdr copy of my cd out and about, keep the original in mint condition. The copy protection may be good for PC base cd burning, but using a Hi-Fi system with a cd recorder you can get round that.
With every path bloke there is always another one cleared. UK release I've noticed dont have the CD protection that most of the CD's I get imported do tho I've noticed.

i've never had a copyrighted cd before, but some of them you can get around by writing on the edge with a texta hehe. they try and fool your cd drive in the computer by putting a very small data track at the end of the cd, so the drive reads that and doesn't know its an audio cd.
i think its crap cause like others have said you might want to copy your cds and leave the originals, like to use in your car for example.
but whenever a new copy protection scheme comes along it doesn't take long for people to find a way around it. i also remember reading about someone getting sued for printing a t-shirt that had the 3 lines of code or so that you needed to get past a very expensive and brand new copy protection hehe

But the worste thing about this fucking shitt is that you cant play it in every cdplayer. I have got a cd / mp3 player walkman and it cant read from cds that is protected
Not either my dvd player cant read this. I have to take a old shitty player that is not digital (its near analog) to be able to read from the cds.
Now ive found some programs that Ive installed on my computer so I can copy the cds and remove the protection.
This is not pleased by anyone!

hmm, i got a few copyprotected cds,
cactus data shield 200 & crap
never had a problem with them so, far cd drive makes perfect backup copies with EAC, so fat *fingers crossed*
never had to resort to the marker or post it note trick yet,
actuallly theres a new law being passed in germany and some other european countires, that makes it illegal for any programs or other measures to circumvent any protection, aka dmca for europe. i think it even outlaws backups for personal use, even if you have the original media

Glad I dont live in germany then otherwise I'd have the long arm of the law round me gaff areesting me for things I've already paid for.
Thats law is taking things a bit over the top to be fair.

i think that is a new EU law....and it will be initiated because of the pressure from the record and movie industry of course...as they are totally paranoid...
not allowing backups for personal use is just silly...as many others here think, i also think it's best to keep a backup of my cd's in my car...not risking to ruin them (as many car stereos can do)...or risking they will be stolen (many are old classics and pretty impossible to replace)...
also it is a lot more convenient having the whole collection on mp3-format or similar so that you can just create a long playlist to listen to without bothering to change cd all the time (call me lazy, but i just hate that!).
soon the same will go for tv-viewing...when the harddisk-recorders become more popular (i'm soon gonna buy one)...as it is a lot easier to have all your favourite movies/series on a harddisk than on dvd (or vhs). would also be great if these harddisk-recorders could use mpeg4 instead of mpeg2 compression (not sure what they use) to get more stuff stored
