Post Post subject: Tiesto made famous because of DELIRIUM?!? Reply with quote

I read an interview with Delirium recently, which was quite nice. It appeared in our local paper, which I thought was cool, because generally people aren't into electronica around here.
The article said that DJ Tiesto got really put on the map because of his remix of Delirium's Silence.
Would you say this is correct?

What is the "map" you're talking about here? He was doing great work long before he did that remix...

seems it gave him a whole new level of exposure..that's the song that originally made me really start paying attention to him. still one of the greatest songs ever, i think.

hmm, a pickle of a question, id say

first things first... you say this was an interview in your local newspaper..
and delirium being from the good old united states of canada Razz , and i notice your from canada too.. guess that kinda answers the question

presuming the interview was soley done for the newspaper, and not intended for outside audiences, if so, then he's probably pointing out it about in his homeland, canada, i dunno about there, but he's probably right,

but as for the wider picture, nah dunno, im sure ISOS2 was out before that particular delirium mix, and he did do other brilliant works, such as kamaya painters and gouryella and others before that, i think, they for me would paint a much more representative picture of tiesto and would put him more firmly on any map than that remix!!

guess delirium is maybe right if that map is only canada Twisted Evil

besides delirium remix that first pops into my mind, is not the tiesto one, rather than the airscape one, followed by the fade sanctuary remix!

his collaboration with Delirium and Sarah Mclachlan "Silence" (in search of sunrise remix) was just a stepping stone for his career, considering that he did pretty bad in his collaboration with Jan Johnston in his most recent album "in my memory"

I wouldn't say that it put him on the map but it din;t do any harm thats for sure. As for silence, its not one of my favourite tracks, not even his remix. Average for me.

In America it made him on the map cause it was the first dancetrack that was played on the radio in prime time there.

This info I got from the Tiesto DVD: Another Day at the Office

Agree. Could never figure out why people liked it so much.

In America, electronic dance music is not considered mainstream. Rock, Pop, and Hiphop receive much more attention than EDM does.

And one day, someone turned in some local radio and heard this song and got hooked by the way Sarah sing it. So he/she/they start requesting this song to be played in other stations.

A good possibility is that the "they" is referring to people who listen to Pop music most of the time. My assumption is that most of the time a pop song becomes popular for its easy listening or so call cheesy beat plus some nice vocals from beautiful/handsome pop stars. Well, although the part about vocal is not always true that it has to be astounding to be popular, the face of the singer sometimes determines how popular the song can be.

And there are people who listen to Pop most of the time find that the companies are in fact selling the look of the artists more than their musical work. They become sicked of this kind of commercialization but could not abandon this genre of music that they have fallen in love with for so long. They were/are out to look for sounds that surprise their souls. This time, they focus highly on the feeling and expect the sound that they would find can bring up memory of the past - the enthusiasm when they first encounter Pop music.

And back to the beginning, they accidentally heard this track from any possible kind of source and thought "Dude, this is awesome". Then the vibe had spreaded out and made this tone a lilttle different from most of other EDM. It received props from mainstream music supporters. But thanks for their effort in trying to bring it to the mainstream.

oops a small oversight! Razz

delirium - silence rox for me, probably one of the first trance music i heard with the vocals being so powerfull, guess its all down to that sarah mclaughlan(sp?) , but the tune rox! even more so the fade sanctuary remix!

DJ XYZ wrote:

thats probably a quite a good possibilty, seeing as i know quite alot of people know sarah mclaughlan(sp?) for her vocal stuff, rather than the trance/electronic work she's done, and they probably stumble upon her other works, like the stuffs she's done in trance and other, like that too!

i know for me i remeber hearing bbe - seven days 1 week, on tv when i was a kid, i loved the sound of it, but really didnt realise what it was, until way way much later, Razz

oddly i wonder if Viceroy reading that interview in newspaper, didnt coincide with the release of delirium - karma 2, as i remeber reading a review about it not too far back, forgot about it until now, as i havent heard much delirium since that rhys fulber guy left, wonder how there stuff is

On my 12" single (MAGIK MUZIK 805-5) it is the voice Nicola Hitchc o c k you hear Surprised (Vocals by Nicolay Hitchc o c k of Mandalay)

I dont know it for In my memory but as far I know she doesnt appear at all on Tiesto's In my memory album.

Where did you get the info then?

Quote:
In My Memory - This full CD from DJ Tiesto features two mixes of the same track from Jan, called "Close To You" there is the original version which is a slow trancey number full of passion and feeling, and a more upbeat remix. Originally released in Japan, this CD is now available across the rest of the world.

Seems the Jan Johnston vocals only appear on the album....(maybe even only the Japanese version)...

Tiesto's remix of silence was put on a lot of mix cds that were kind of mainstream so I think a lot of people who aren't really into good trance and are more into the ATB, Darude caught onto Tiesto.

Tiesto had remixed, produced original material, and worked on collaborations prior to his delerium remix, but his remix of "silence" was and is arguably still his biggest hit to date. In that sense, it "put him on the map" to music fans all over the world, more so than his prior releases. On a side note, I really want to hear his new track w/ skin Smile
