Like the subject says, I'm curious about what the difference between trance and techno is. What are some tell-tale signs that distinguish techno from trance. I know this is a newbie-ish question, but I'm curious.

Thanks.

Trance is more melodic techno is rougher with pounding kics and groove basslines! Hard cutting synths and roaring percussions!

Trance is more Hands up in the air, techno is more head banging.. Smile

There was an article somewhere on ivibes before explaining in full with about 4 pages the differences between techno and trance... Smile If i find it i will link to it in this topics

Have a nice day!
Very Happy

What I would like to see on i:Vibes is a sort of electronic music dictionary. You know, talking about the different kinds of electronica, from D'n'B to trance to techno. It's really hard to distinguish for someone who doesn't know much about the scene. And of course, there are many kinds of trance- progessive, psy, goa, melodic, uplifting, ect, which makes this even harder.

Best way to understand the difference is to listen to a few records from both the genres to pick up a feel of the tempo, beat and structure of botha trance record and techno record.

When I listen to techno I see different shapes in my head, floating around. Do I need help?

yeah as its been said techno is more based upon groove and rythm....trance is alot more melodic and contains alot more buid ups and breakdowns.....the two genres compliment eachother in my books

to put it bluntly you know when your listening to trance when uve closed your eyes, hands in the air and youre drifting into an unknown world...techno has more polished beats with few melodies, give it a flick!
