hmm... i am in the firm oppinon that wavy gravy shouldnt have been remixed, or released as a single, wonder if the record label had a say in this, this is one of the most repeated tune, on radio, ive heard it so often as background music, for adverts, or when a radio presenter is talking about a compo or a stupid feature,
much of the essence is lost, and it to my mind sounds depressing,
anyways back to the topic.... paul van dyk is....
1) a pioneer
2) innovative
3) not afraid to take risks
4) down to earth person
5) unique
6) a very talented and gifted person
7) an admired person
a wise and experinced person in the music scene
9) influential
10) a lucky person to have worked/collaborated and made friends with some of the best in the music field
im sure that list doesnt half cover what could be said about pvd, his remix of wavy gravy i dont prefer either, but imagine, how many other artists would have simply been intimidated just at the thought of remixing sasha - wavy gravy, in a way i expected not many if any remixes from sasha's album would arise , in addition what would wavy gravy sound like if it was mixed by another less experinced artist, can pvd's remix be an indication of the best that can be done, im not sure, but i am pretty sure out of the few guys there, very few have the talent experince and knowledge gained thro the many years as pvd, yes there are some but not many, pvd remixing wavy gravy, i feel did what he wanted, what made him happy, i feel thats more than enough, if other people like it, thats a bonus, if not nothing lost
by mixing wavy gravy, i would think he himself has probably learned something, only way a person/artist/dj can progress is by trying, no if's and buts. all of the creme de la creme, have earned there position, pvd included, majority of them are freinds, as well as compatriots, pvd and sasha probably have already shared thoughts about the remix, and most likely have had either agreeing and disagreing opinons, but irrespective have the upmost respect,
point being, pvd respects sasha, sasha respects pvd, and proabbly trusted him with his music, it would be intresting to publically hear sasha's thoughts about the remix, probably wouldn't. but most likely nowhere near its gonna be like "its crap, pvd sux"
as for final thoughts, pvd has given so much to trance music scene (in my oppionon) for little in return, he commands my upmost respect for his talent and for his abitlies, he has musically acheived alot, and will probably
be mentioned in many years to come, how often is a person remeber many years, the past decade has seen the emergence of trance music and with it few artists have stayed with it from the begining, keeping the pulse of trance beating as strong as ever, pvd is one of the few to name, and no reason to see him not continuing as long as trance exists, he will be remeber and remain in my memory my lifetime, even after his death he will remain the memory of many ppl
i say judge a person on his entire life/work, rather than single out a small part, as this probably will not be representative and most likely will in some way detract from a personal and an intresting experince, which you would only be doing yourself a grave injustice by missing it, with your narrow and restrictive mind
as for pvd, i can only wish he keeps doing what he does, theres so much of his old stuff thats untouchable for me.

Well said. I have an incredible amount of respect for Paul van Dyk. Not all producers can hit the mark with their remixes... sometimes it takes a few less than stellar efforts to make the amazing ones shine (I haven't heard the wavy gravy remix yet).

Hahahaha this is what I wanna hear !!!
He's not crap but his mixing is always the same an his tracks are always the well known ones....
His mixing takes you nowhere!
In comparison with Oakey, sasha and joof... who at least create an atmosphere --> --> he could learn something from them, still I think seeing him live is completely different, he's a crowd-jay.

About his productions and remixes, bad imo
Although for an angel and tracks from that time were great, namistai, forbidden fruit etc...
His remixes nowadays are shite, but yeah even a bad track becomes good for pvd fans when he remixes it
I bet if klea - tic toc wasn't remixed by him people would burn the track to ashes... see...

the fact that he plays the same tracks is because there is not much good trance records out there at the moment which is not surprising.
as for pvd himself, he is a well respected dj... far from crap i am not a huge fan of him, but i've enjoyed some of his productions.

i think oakey is borin these days... but like pvd, they used to be really reallt good - but i think they've lost abit of form to up and coming djs like marco v, armin and fabio mc... dont get me wrong i'd pay to see oakey and i'd definately pay to see pvd (some sets are good, some sets are bad, same with productions... got get it 100% for 100% of ppl all the time)
