Post subject: Important - Plz Read Concerning Audiogalaxy |
|
|
There is currently a lot of talk going on about Audiogalaxy. Basically all songs have been blocked out now, Maybe they will unblock the uncopyrighted ones, but for now nothing is available.
Over here at [i:Vibes] you should all know about the non-mp3 policy. What you see with audiogalaxy will eventually happen at every single site who run mp3's until the record labels are happy that nobody is downloading illegal music. Maybe in the future they will set up a charge system for music, who knows...
We ask you on this board, please do not come on asking for places to download tunes or what is going on with audiogalaxy, We will do our best to keep the main news updated with any significant developments. We keep the policies about non-mp3's for a couple of reasons, One is that record labels will not come after us for allowing such links, so we have no reason to worry about it, and secondly, the artists who are against illegal mp3 distributions are the same ones who spare time to come in and talk to us, give us news, and interviews. We hope you understand.
All Posts asking what is up with AG will be closed now, we will make sure you know all there is to know and not rumours.
Thanks

hmm, finally it happened, the situation was that audiogalaxy instead of having a legal battle, reached a settlement with the RIAA
http://www.riaa.org/PR_Story.cfm?id=522
theres the official announcement from the RIAA,
heres the main important bit
Quote: | The settlement reached would allow Audiogalaxy to operate a "filter-in" system, which requires that for any music available, the songwriter, music publisher, and/or recording company must first consent to the use and sharing of the work. The other key provision of the agreement is for Audiogalaxy to pay the music publishers and recording industry a substantial sum based on Audiogalaxy's assets and interest in resolving this case quickly. |
basically as you ppl probably know right now all the tunes are blocked, while they work on setting place a system in accordance with the RIAA demands, thats what i think
once RIAA won against napster it set a precedent against all mp3 filesharing networks where illegal mp3 were being traded, and i could understand in its entirity and dont blame audiogalaxy for their course of action, i presume from this
Quote: | The other key provision of the agreement is for Audiogalaxy to pay the music publishers and recording industry a substantial sum based on Audiogalaxy's assets and interest in resolving this case quickly. |
they have lost "a substaintial sum" of money, hell what probably seems substantial would be peanuts if they lost in court
and as ian, has made it clear that the ivibes policy is in place to prevent such legalities with i:vibes, and as stated many times other place this was forseen, already a fairly prominent site went down due to presure releated to mp3's and ag, in addtion i bet alot of other music mp3 sites are getting increasingly worried, and i am confident, although i wish it wasnt that this is gonna set the trend for things to come this year and the near future
instead i:vibes dont have to worry and waste time of issues like that and concentrate on what s best about i:vibes news, reviews, and interviews and info about the music you love

yeah, this is bad for all up and coming producers/djs. alot of djs owe a great deal of their success to livesets downloaded off the internet.
this will just push file sharing underground aswell, it can't be stopped.

It's the same as illegal cd copying. When somebody invents a new security, it will be hacked in less than a week. Same thing with mp3 sharing, there will be a substitute or something similar to audiogalaxy...

personally ive never used audiogalaxy before due to the firewall issues so i dont really know what is going to be lost...but i did use napster for a while and once that shut i thought it would be the end of downloading. choons.. but it wasnt....u just got to bother your arse to find other sites hosting music...and u will always get decent underground stuff....
and the truth is mp3s will never go away....which is great...

My life is now officially over. Theres so many good bootlegs & white labels that will now be lost forever. Not to mention all the really hard to find stuff, useually only on 12inch. This is bad, really bad.
Am i gonna have to start buying M.O.S. albums again?

seems the RIAA (Yankie *beep*) seem set having there way on controling digital music.
As A&B said, those not available to buy, out of press bootlegs and rare mixes are lost for good.

RIAA should give it up already, i don't know why they bother
file trading will continue happen no matter what those bastards do

just out of interest regarding all this "no talk of mp3" stuff u keep going on about, did this site not come about from [url removed by Ian] which contains possibly more links websites for d/l mp3's than any other site on the net?? then it also contains updates telling you the new tunes available on the sites for d/l?? if i'm correct here does that not make this all seem a little hypocritical? if i'm wrong fair enough i put my hands up and admit it, i'm just curious as i said at the start..

... im guessing u mean TG (as the URl has been removed)
you are right.. ivibes did originate with the intention of becoming the new TG.. but at present they are running as two seperate sites.. with NO link from ivibes to TG.. but with links from TG to ivibes.. if u get me ??
