Hey, I know this will probably seem like a pretty ignorant question to most of you, and even though I have like a thousand trance tracks...

What the hell is the difference between the genres?
Rephrased, what features are exclusive to each of the trance genres?

Any chance of giving an example of each of the genres?

Thanks,
Dave

personally I'd count them as hardtrance, esp. DJ Scot stuff, it has a lovely tune usually in the middle, as for Derb, they're borderline IMO, I think they're really hard, but ppl think Hard trance is just a tune with a hard kick, this is the 'real' HardTrance IMHO Laughing

i think hard trance is a very scepticle genre... its goes from 2 extreem's..

you have stuff like dumonde, cosmic gate, e.t.c which are hard but still have melodies threw them and could be classed as uplifting...

and then u have stuff with no uplifting melody and is mainlu just loud fast beats (which i personally dont like)

.. which of the 2 are hard trance ?? or are they both ?? cos i get confused like fcuk about it all.. Rolling Eyes

p.s .. whats the tune on lightworks's main page ?? its mint !!

well i love hard trance..
like dj c.a. , dj shog, cosmic gate, dj mind-x, snowman, etc..
also hennes & cold
imo i think this kinda trance like dumonde is cheesy, not that i dont like cheese trance i must admit i like it. cuz it has a cool melody and its much entertaining than melodic trance. which i used to like. not that much anymore.. so there theres only one kind of hard trance.. if u see the other ones that the beat goes much faster id call it Hardcore. asi think much ppl do.

Hard trance is hard trance... i think it should be pritty obvious that Hennes&Cold, DJ Scot Project and Warmduscher are hard trance. Altho the likes of: Dumonde, Cosmic Gate, DJ Shog, Shokk, Kai Tracid and Flutlicht all blend uplifting with hard trance really well. So there is sub-genres in the already sub sub sub sub catagories that is trance. So no name can be placed on trance or any other style of music that exsists - so leets just say trance is FCUKUNG ACE and leave it at that !! Very Happy

My fav genre of Trance would be Uplifting Trance, Vocal Trance and Hard Trance. At the moment Hard Trance, with the likes of DJ Scot Project, S.H.O.K.K. etc etc.
