Post Post subject: ANY PROGRESSIVE HEADS AMONGST US? Reply with quote

hi..
this has probably been posted before but ill have to ask again...
how many are into progressive who are members of this site?
i have just joined the crew but feel there is a lack of overall music appreciation-dont get me wrong the site is great! and for trance minded folk-top draw! and im not disrespecting trance. But i know from talking to others on the site that there needs to b a bit more done to widen the range of music discussion/reviews etc. Or are the progressive/house/tribal bodies asleep? if so..wake up and make some posts.. it will increase the overall variety for the site...and may interest more guests to join- i know that from when ive started on here ive advertised the site to many people and raised interest.. be good if everyone could do the same...
to the rest of the crew= good work guys!
Wink

not all songs have to 'explode'

andy, one day im sure u will appreciate what good progressive music is

dont get me wrong..i love uplifting trance and dont mind a bit of hard trance but there are times when i wanna listen to prog. alot more simply coz i wanna chill or just get lost in the music

eg: Steve lawler - live at dance department - What a set, real tribal at the start but then it gets really funky from 10min mark onwards....i could dance to that stuff for hours Wink

theres the odd prog song I like, examples like connector - interference, some of tiestos newer stuff, and Accadia - Into the dawn (James holden mix) but theres a lot that doesn't interest me, I'm used to catchy melodies or lots of bass, and if not I tend to go to normal house music or chilled stuff after that

when u say you just like one prog song doesant mean u like prog. prog needs to be hard in a whole set so you can be taken on the 'journey' and hear the music progress. Steve lawlewr is a great example, he can play some really good deep tribal house and really make progressive.
i still prefer my uplifting trance but prog can be good when its mixed well and doesn't get too draged out.

if u read the reviews of things like lexicon avenue that just been done.that has both of those..a mean bassline that will surprise any trance head- but not us proggies Wink .. and who said about exploding... fair play it doenst seem that way..but if you move away from the artificial image created and go into it more..u'll find some tracks that really go off.. like 'why r u here' by lexicon avenue again (i dont like lexicon avenue-honest Very Happy )...as played by anthony pappa at innercity..i tell you if u listen to that set-it matches any set ive heard over the past couple of years- dont think progressive as 125bpm chill out room house... look beyond it-or are u afraid you might like it?? he he he Question

where as id say trance has nothing to it cos most of them are made in the same way with no variation.... progressive has a lot to it... if u listen to the like of lee burridge and steve lawler-u would understand that it goes a bit more complex than trance....wider variation in music style.. Very Happy

u guys r a bit shallow to think that progressive has nothing to do with trance Rolling Eyes

perfect example.. John '00' flemming is a great prog/trance Dj and produced some excellent tunes that have a good element of prog. in them

this guy is fckin awesome..and he spins both progressive and melodic trance together and it sounds great
i have heard his EM last year and i heard him spin @ 2tribes, the guy is amazing
stars his set off slow and deep but still a bit trancey..then he really gets into it. Beautiful stuff. Oakenfold is another Dj who plays this style (tho that depends largely on where he is playing of course)

so plz ppl...broaden ur minds! dont only listen to melodic/uplifting and hard trance. there is a place for progressive! Exclamation

Post Post subject: CAT!!! Reply with quote

I know that this has nothing to do with progressive music, but i can't help but wonder how adorable that poor cat is on the turning decks on Trigax's profile/pic/stuff. It's so cute!!

About progressive. I am honestly what people would call eclectic music lover. I love all sorts of music, sometimes tend to be a little bias on some music but other wise i love music.

Music is not a genre. Music is not classified. Pop/jazz/classical/techno/uplifting trance/progressive... those are genres of music... not music itself. Certain music appeal to certain people.... certain genres appeal to certain people at certain times. If you are going to say full on OH... THis Type of Music sux.... then you're so wrong. If you don't give other music a chance, how is your music much better. Dj's do a good mix... not the word MIX... they know what they are doing. Not all Dj's may stick to a certain genre of music, some of them play certain genres for certain 'bias perhaps' crowds and some of them i.e Mauro Picotto just feels the need to express himself through his music and allow for more acceptance of different genres mixing it in. A good mix is a mix with all sorts of genres.

As long as there is no RnB and PoP involved. I thrive on good beats and melody not a made-up-propped-up-sexual-appeal creation like Britney Spears of the Backside Boys. Sure there is a phase everyone goes through.. i like HANSON for heavens sake!! That's as low as it can get. The sooner you understand good music is individual and will evolve and does not really require *much* conversion, the better you will learn to love progressive music. It's journey like ViciousVinyl has stated and again differs like what Velour said.

DAMN I BULLSHIT A LOT>>> did i make any sense?? ROFL!!

its boring to read continual trance articles...great to read about different things...like infinity told me...on the front page he aims to set up varying music styles so various tastes (or in similar words Wink )... so come on progressive ppl.. post sme stuff....lol...

I don't mind the odd progressive tune, but My background of Hardcore makes me tend to go for Hard Trance after Uplifting, and of course the chilled stuff, plus Hybrid who totally rock Very Happy

I think Andy's point is that you don't much exposure over the airwaves of the progressive, You don't have someone like James Holden, Sasha or Digweed with a permanent show playing nothing but progressive, Sure Judge Jules humps the odd Prog. tune but not many and Fergie takes progressive, wipes it on his arse and plays the blinding Harder Edged stuff. Maybe theres a lot of it being played in clubs, but it stays in clubs as a rule, which from talking to a lot of prog. fans is how you like it

argggh Evil or Very Mad , hmm im sure i posted summat here b4, hmm prob ie6 duffed up,
anyways, hmm progressive trance, i cant say much as i am just starting t get my feet on the ground with trance, ive heard a few tracks , james holden -horizon was one recently and this track was sweeeeet, didnt realise it was progressive, with all the definitions and my expectations of what progressive was, is it me or do ppl in general start with trance and the progress to progressive stuff as thats what has happened with sum of my mates in prog stuff general

well, all i can say is that i'll have to wait till i've got listening to progressive stuff, then i'll make my oppinon of it, probably i aint gonna be deadset against it

hmm, anyone reconmend any prog starter/classic/must hear tunes? usually get lists for trance ones, but aint seen too many prog ones

i'm a fan of some prog music. i'm very picky about it though. If anyone's ever heard Paolo Mojo's Music Is Freedom 2 then you know the kind of prog house i like. The Silver Planet label is awesome as well.
